Darkness and light - the duality

Couple of days back, when i was reviewing my photo collections, especially when i cam across the below pictures the truth of the duality (darkness and light) did strike on my mind. It's not just the duality of darkness and light that gives good pictures but aren't they the basis of existence?

Candle offerings at a church in Rome, you can notice the multiple subjects the little girl lighting the candle, the taller girl and the lad starring at each other across the candle and the hand of a lady lighting a candle.
